CERTIFIED QUALITY.
REFERENCIA has just undergone the inspection of the American College of Pathologists (CAP) to become certified as a CAP Laboratory, and this has made it the tenth laboratory certified by the CAP in Central America and the Caribbean. It is also the first clinical lab in the country and all the Caribbean to receive the International Certification of Quality Management Standard ISO 9001, ISO 15189, IQNET for its commitment to service and continuous improvement of interoffice processes by Underwriters Laboratories (UL).
REFERENCIA´s relationship testing department is accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) and certified ISO 17025 by ECA. It also has a very modern on-site blood bank that performs within international standards and is AABB accredited as well.
The Special Projects Department is staffed by certified personnel that handles biological samples between countries, complying with safety regulations for transportation of diagnostic samples and infectious substances, based on IATA (International Air Transport Association) guidelines, and processing samples from countries in Central America and the Caribbean, like Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Trinidad and Tobago, and Haiti.

In an ongoing effort to be the leaders and at the forefront in diagnostic technology in the country, the laboratory is constantly on the lookout for new tests, better and more precise methods, as well as new equipment. As of recently, the molecular biology department, which is the only one in the country capable of performing PCR testing, has started offering a variety of new tests of great importance to the medical community such as:

Hepatitis C Genotyping, Genotyping Viroseq HIV-1, viral loads for HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C, High Risk HPV Genotyping, Neisseria g/ Chlamydia, Flu A/B and VRS, Herpes I and II, Dengue, ChikV, and Zika. TB SCREENING: QuantiFERON®-TB Gold In-Tube, GeneXpert® System for MTB, Micobacterium TB Resistance by PCR, MDR-TB and XDR-TB diagnosis with liquid culture.
MICROBIOLOGY:
GeneXpert® System for Neisseria gonorrhoeae/Chlamydia trachomatis, Group B Strep, Norovirus, FilmArray™ System for Gastrointestinal Panel, Respiratory Panel, Meningitis/Encephalitis Panel, and Sepsis Panel.
Most of these tests were processed overseas, usually at a very high cost to the patient. However, thanks to REFERENCIA and its ability to process them locally, patients
are able to receive the quality results they expect with the added benefits of lower costs and more timely results.
In addition to its work within the Dominican Republic, the lab offers its first-rate services in routine and specialized tests to several countries throughout the Caribbean as well as Central and South America. Its Special Projects Department routinely works with the CDC and various Nonprofit Organizations on research and surveillance studies within the country. Within the private sector, the lab works with several pharmaceutical companies as the main reference laboratory for both local and international medical trials, whose results have greatly helped the advancement of medical care within the country.
